'So exhilarating it makes you rejoice to be alive. Its sheer skill and invention are awe-inspiring.' The Times
'War Horse only confirms the National's extraordinary knack of turning children's literature into the finest drama. Stunning.’ Sunday Times
'An extraordinary piece of theatre which is both epic and intimate. Guaranteed to move the heart.' Sunday Express
At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. he's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.
The National's epic is based on the celebrated novel by the Children's Laureate (2003-05) Michael Morpurgo. Actors working with magnificent, life-sized puppets by the internationally renowned Handspring Puppet Company lead us on a gripping journey through history.
A dance spectacular, ‘Divas’, choreographed and directed by Olivier Award and Evening Standard Award-winning Peter Schaufuss, pays homage to three of the world's greatest icons - Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich and Judy Garland - in one stunning production.
Featuring original recordings from ‘La Vie En Rose’ to ‘Falling in Love Again’ and ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’, ‘Divas’ celebrates each stars’ art and individuality. Brilliant lighting and staging relive the glitz and glamour of Hollywood in an exhilarating show for the whole family.
This production marks the new dance spectacular from choreographer Peter Schaufuss the former Artistic Director of the English National Ballet. This is his second show based on popular performers to appear at the Apollo Theatre.
Schaufuss, who began his career as an international ballet star on a par with Baryshnikov and Nureyev in the 1970s and 1980s, also choreographed the controversial Diana, The Princess, which premiered in Manchester in 2005.
Divas will be one of three shows with a connection to The Wizard Of Oz in the West End this summer, in addition to Wicked and the Royal Festival Hall’s revival of the magical musical. Child star Garland became a superstar overnight as a result of her performance as Dorothy in the famous film, but with fame and stardom came problems, and her continuing high-profile life was dogged by barbiturate addiction.
