Goldilocks and her Big Top
By Rupert Bean

London's biggest and best panto extravaganza, the 10th from the Back End stable, is from 5th - 8th December, the circus themed ''Goldilocks and her Big Top”, with all profits going to selected charities.

This year’s show sees the familiar story featuring the 3 bears given a typical Back End circus themed twist! Goldilocks decides to run away from home and join the circus, featuring all the usual circus characters, such as the Ringmaster, the strongman, the knife thrower, the trapeze artists and the magician… and who can forget the Bearded Lady and the circus lion (with tamer)!

However, all is not what it seems and she soon uncovers a plot to take over the world with dastardly clowns. With the help of some local lumberjacks (the 3 Bear brothers), Goldilocks must defeat the evil within the Big Top, not to mention some wickedness from Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf! Stacks of fun awaits under the Marquee of Mayhem!

PLEASE NOTE
The final showing Saturday 8th December at 7.15pm is an ADULT ONLY performance.

Pam Ann theatre tickets, Shaw Theatre, London

Nov 13, 2007 Author: | Filed under: Comedy

Pam Ann is the alter ego of Australian comedian Caroline Reid. An emerging icon in gay culture, she portrays the air-hostess Pam Ann, a mixture of drag, camp and glamour, and a pun on the airline Pan Am. Reid as Pam Ann can be seen on tour in the United Kingdom as well as the Bloomsbury Theatre, she also has a guest-role in the BBC show Fasttrack. She also frequently conducts shows in major cities in the USA, Canada and her native Australia.

Performances tend to emphasise the vagaries of air travel, including the identifying quirks of various airlines around the world, mixed with a generous dose of ribald humour and double entendre. Reid often caters to airline employees and frequent travellers in her audience, directly involving them in the performance.

Sets musical theatre back a thousand years!

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, SPAMALOT is the new musical directed by Oscar Winning Mike Nichols, with a book by the third tallest Python, Eric Idle, and an almost but not entirely new score by Eric Idle (no relation) and John du Prez.

Retelling the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and featuring a number of gratuitously scantily clad showgirls, not to mention the cows, killer rabbits and French people, Monty Python's SPAMALOT has been hailed as:

"A no-holds-barred smash"
The New Yorker

"Funnier than the Black Death"
Brother Maynard, Friars Weekly incorporating Nuns Illustrated

"Pies iesu domine donna eis requiem"
Thelonius Monk

"Triffic!"
Michael Palin (no relation)

"A Grand Slamalot"
New York Post

"King Arthur is rolling over in his grave - and laughing till his armour rattles"
USA Today

"Holy Gales of laughter"
Newsday

Please note
The Spamalot performance on the 18th October will be a signed performance.

Ayckbourn’s play follows the lives of three couples over the course of three years, telling their stories through successive Christmas Eve gatherings.

The production reunites Horrocks and Sinclair, who last shared a London stage in 2004, when they starred in Stephen Poliakoff’s Sweet Panic at the Duke of York’s. The versatile Horrocks has credits ranging from Cabaret (Donmar Warehouse) to Little Voice on both stage and screen, and sitcom Absolutely Fabulous.

Sinclair, like Horrocks, is equally comfortable in drama, comedy or musical. Most recently his talent has been seen in The Producers, playing Leo Bloom in 2005, a decade after collecting the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for She Loves Me. On television his credits include An Actor’s Life For Me and Nelson’s Column, and he will forever be known for his film appearance in cult teen hit Gregory’s Girl.

Seagrove’s return to the West End comes just three months after her last outing in this summer’s The Letter at the Wyndham’s. Previously her appearances have included The Night Of The Iguana (2005) and The Constant Wife (2002), while she is familiar to television audiences as Jo Mills in Judge John Deed.

Horovitch also has a wealth of London experience to his name, most recently appearing in Mary Stuart (Donmar Warehouse and Gielgud), Losing Louis (Hampstead and Trafalgar Studio 1) and Spinning Into Butter (Royal Court Upstairs).
Bamber is a Laurence Olivier Award-winning actor (Best Actor for My Night With Reg), who has worked extensively with the National Theatre and was last seen in The Soldiers’ Fortune at the Young Vic.

Williams has recently finished a run in The Hothouse at the National, where she has also appeared in Mappa Mundi and Skylight. Williams’s other London credits include The Revengers’ Comedies, The Homecoming and My Child.

Ayckbourn, one of Britain’s most prolific playwrights, has written over 70 full length plays, among them The Norman Conquests, Bedroom Farce, the Damsels In Distress trilogy and A Chorus Of Disapproval, which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy in 1985.
