Background
La Bayadère – ‘The Temple Dancer’– is a full-length 19th-century ballet classic. The story of love, murder and vengeful judgement by the gods is set against colourful exoticism of India. A beautiful temple dancer is in love with a warrior, but becomes a victim of her jealous rival and of the High Brahmin. There are powerful moments for the two opposing ballerinas, evocative ensembles and a stunning solo as a bronze idol comes vividly to life. The most famous part of all – beautifully staged in this Royal Ballet production by Natalia Makarova – is the sublime, sustained ‘Kingdom of the Shades’, whose moonlit scene of a seemingly endless train of ballerinas is a magical recreation of another world.

Glengarry Glen Ross is David Mamet’s modern classic set in an office of cut-throat Chicago salesmen. Pitched in competition against each other, they will do anything, legal or otherwise, to sell the most real estate. In this world of high stakes and hard sell, the mantra is simple: close the deal and you’ve won a Cadillac; blow the lead and you’re f…d.
Jonathan Pryce and Aidan Gillen star in this West End revival of David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play.
Broadway musical Jersey Boys is to open at London’s Prince Edward theatre next year. Jersey Boys, which tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, opens on 18 March 2008 following previews from 28 February.
The musical premiered on Broadway in November 2005 and won several Tony Awards at the 2006 ceremony, including Best Musical. The new London production of Jersey Boys is staged by the entire Broadway creative team, led by director Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo.
The story of Jersey Boys follows four blue collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks – Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi – as they become one of the biggest American pop bands of the 1960s. The band’s songs include Sherry, Walk Like A Man, December 1963 (Oh What A Night), Big Girls Don’t Cry, Bye Bye Baby and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. The musical is written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with lyrics by Bob Crewe and music by Gaudio.
The heretic is always better dead. And mortal eyes cannot distinguish the saint from the heretic.
A country girl in her late teens declares her bloody mission to drive the English from France and to crown the reluctant Dauphin as King. With staggering confidence, she takes command of the army and conducts a brutal campaign that leads to Charles VII's coronation. But as one of the first Protestants and nationalists, she threatens the very fabric of feudal society and the Catholic Church across Europe. Within one year she is burnt at the stake.
She is inspired, but diabolically inspired.
Anne-Marie Duff plays Joan.

From The Hart, a new biographical musical, is brought to you by the writers of the sell-out success Call Me Merman. John Kane and David Kernan reunite to present the moving story of Lorenz Hart, the man behind the lyrics of classic songs including: THIS CAN'T BE LOVE, MANHATTAN, HAVE YOU MET MISS JONES?, BLUE MOON, LADY IS A TRAMP, BEWITCHED BOTHERED AND BEWILDERED, ON YOUR TOES, MY FUNNY VALENTINE and numerous others.
Known as the Poet Of Broadway, Lorenz Hart elevated the song lyric from doggerel to something unique and on occasions profound. Without the least hint of pretension, he wrote some of the most beautiful, wittiest lyrics of the last century, and as long as people fall in and out of love, the songs will never die.
Performed by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Limited on behalf of R & H Theatricals of New York.

All About My Mother is a passionate hymn to the strength and spirit of women; a kaleidoscopic drama embracing motherhood, love and desire; a homage to the great Hollywood movies.
Following the tragic death of her beloved son, Manuela goes to Barcelona in search of his father. But before she can exorcise her guilt she gets caught up in the lives of three women: Agrado, a long-lost transvestite friend, Rosa, a young nun in search of love and Huma Rojo, the famous actress that Manuela’s son so admired. As Manuela’s life begins to have meaning once more, her son’s father returns and the journey of discovery and forgiveness comes full circle.
Lesley Manville and Diana Rigg lead a cast including Joanne Froggatt, Colin Morgan and Charlotte Randle in the world premiere of Samuel Adamson’s new play based on Pedro Almodóvar’s Oscar-winning film, All About My Mother. It is the first time that Almodóvar has agreed to his work being produced in English for the theatre and nearly 20 years since he has permitted a major stage
adaptation of his work.
Kevin Spacey commented: ‘I’m thrilled about the casting to date. The Old Vic celebrates exceptional acting talent and all five of these actors bring unique qualities that we believe will bring this amazing story to life for our audience. I’ve always been a huge admirer of Lesley Manville’s work and her remarkable ability to access truth and humanity in the roles she plays. Her extensive experience of
working on new writing with Mike Leigh, at the Royal Court and elsewhere, makes her a wonderful asset to this production. And I couldn’t be more pleased that Diana Rigg, one of the UK’s best-loved actresses, will be playing the role of Huma. Diana’s played an extraordinary range of roles in a distinguished career and I can’t wait to see her on The Old Vic stage.’
Please note: Age resriction
This play contains strong language and dialogue of a sexual nature. It also deals with transgender issues and homosexuality. Recommended for ages 15+
“We're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac El Dorado.
Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired.”
David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning dark comedy exposes a dog-eat-dog world, where a few small-time, ruthless, real-estate salesmen scramble for their fair share of the American Dream. At once hilarious and disturbing, the play presents a Darwinian battle between men who scheme, cheat, curse, plead, steal, despair and connive in an attempt to get "on the board", each revealing a seamy side of human nature.
A new production of fast-paced Shakespearean romp The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged) comes to the Arts theatre this summer.
The irreverent show became the capital’s longest running comedy on its last foray into London, when it ran at the Criterion from 1996-2005. Condensing all of Shakespeare’s 37 plays into one 97-minute show, The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged) includes Hamlet performed forwards, backwards and sideways, Titus Andronicus as a TV cookery programme, a rap version of Othello and all 16 tragedies shaped into the distinctly more slimline Four Weddings And A Transvestite.
The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged) was originally created by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. This new production is being put together by producer Mark Goucher, with Act Productionsand Wimpole Theatre.

together.’

Here comes the show you've been waiting for… FOREVER!
ELAINE PAIGE returns to the West End for the first time in 7 years to star in the Broadway smash-hit musical, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. This irresistible, totally original, five-time Tony Award-winning show will magically transport you to a world of high-kicking, toe-tapping delight.
As a die-hard musical theatre fan drops the needle on his favourite cast album, an outrageously funny musical from the 1920s bursts to life in his living room. What follows is the uproarious tale of a pampered starlet determined to give up show business to get married and her ruthless producer intent on sabotaging the nuptials. Add to this a Latin lover, a debonair groom, an English butler, a pair of gangsters disguised as pastry chefs and a very tipsy chaperone, and all manner of mix-ups and mayhem are set to ensue.
If you've ever sat in a darkened theatre and thought, "Dear Lord in heaven, please let it be good", this is the show for you. It will be!
The comic and actor brings his latest stand-up show, Fame, to the Carling Hammersmith Apollo for some additional London dates after selling out his Royal Albert Hall run this autumn. Lot's of dancing on taxis, I'm sure…
Ricky Gervais, Hollywood's "hottest Brit" and co-creator and co-writer of the two multi award-winning shows The Office and Extras, is going on a national UK tour, with his third live show Fame.
More anecdotal and autobiographical than before, this show allows Gervais to meander and deconstruct everyday life. Everyday life, that is, for someone who is famous in nearly a hundred countries and hangs out with David Bowie and Ben Stiller!
Support comes from the kids of the New York School for the Performing Arts. Okay, support actually comes from someone called Robin Ince, but the thought of Ricky in a leotard got the better of me.
Please note this show is STRICTLY over 18’s only.
